Kitebuggies, blokarts and beach cruisers prohibited on Fanø and Rømø, effective from 1st March 2025 - Permission applied for. On this page you can follow the progress of the case.
Friday 28th February 2025:
On Friday 28th February 2025, the local police banned the use of kite buggies, blokarts and beach cruisers on the beaches of Fanø and Rømø, effective from 1st March 2025.
Sunday 2nd March 2025:
The official tourist organization Destination Vadehavskysten is applying immediately for temporary permission to drive on existing areas on Fanø.
At the same time, it is proposed to increase safety in the short term by having all users sign an extended and binding declaration of responsibility, which all beach sailors must carry.
The application for exemption and the accompanying proposal for an extended and binding declaration of responsibility will be submitted to the local police authority on Sunday 2nd March 2025. We have reason to believe that it will be processed quickly.
Monday 10th March 2025:
We have had a meeting with the Police in South and South Jutland. Unfortunately, they maintain that it is illegal according to the Danish Traffic Act to drive beach cruisers on the beaches in Denmark.
As Destination Vadehavskysten, we have already politically raised the matter with the Minister of Transport Thomas Danielsen. The Ministry is working hard to find solutions that can accommodate everyone, including beach cruisers. It is still unknown when a solution will be available in the long term.
In the meantime, we are working on solutions in the short term to apply for a permit for Easter. We will announce it as soon as possible when we know more.
Thursday 27th March 2025:
Meeting about the test period for beach cruiser activities. Practical formalities and final approval are missing. We hope that we can do beach cruiser activities by Easter.
Monday 31st March 2025:
Beach cruisers, politicians, and representatives met with Transport Minister Thomas Danielsen (V) in Grindsted, where they discussed beach surfing on Fanø and Rømø.
On Tuesday, 1st April, the Transport Minister will begin work on a solution that will ensure the use and legalization of wind-powered vehicles, so that beach sailing has a future.
Sunday 6th April 2025:
This weekend, the beach cruisers were back on Rømø, and it is expected that they will also be back on Fanø soon.
A regulation will probably normalize the conditions at the beginning of May. Until then, approval is required.
We are very sorry for any inconvenience this announcement may cause you. We will update when we have news on the matter.
